The case of Marty McMillan is tragic, from all accounts Marty was making his way in the world until one tragic night when his life came to an end after an online date. I remember hearing about Marty’s story in the news back in 2017 and it was really interesting and heart-wrenching to get the full story from his grandmother Forlesia Cook. Forlesia says that Marty was her oldest grandchild she also says he was the light of her life. Marty was staying with her at the time of his disappearance and was getting his life back on track after having minor issues with the law. Marty was on his way to a better life and had just started a job as an electrical apprentice a few weeks before his disappearance. Forlesia says that Marty had a good heart and loved his new job and the new car she had just bought him. As a matter of fact Marty looked forward to clocking in every day so much so he was happy to work overtime. He had just finished working a 6th day on the same day he disappeared.
There are some interesting elements to this story, according to media reports and the family Marty met a woman on Plenty of Fish and went to her home for a date in Southeast D.C. on the night of April 22nd 2017. I was told that Marty wasn’t aware that the woman had a live-in boyfriend, who allegedly came home early found Marty in the house and shot him seven times. Marty’s family was relentless in their search for answers they got his phone records and computer and were able to find his car within 3 weeks and passed the information to police. Forlesia is taking a stand and is part of a big rally scheduled for April of this year to help change laws to adjust the age range for Amber Alerts and to also give police more authority while they conduct homicide investigations. Another interesting thing to come out of Marty’s case was that Metropolitan Police Department of D.C. will tweet and send out a press release for EVERY SINGLE MISSING PERSONS CASE. I think that’s amazing here’s the site https://missing.dc.gov/
John McRae was charged with second-degree murder while armed and Shinayah Davis was charged with three counts of accessory after the fact. The trial for McRae and Shinayah Davis starts on 4/20/2020. I’ll be keeping an eye on this one!!!
